Objective
The Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa (CAHF) commissioned 71point4 to assist with the development and implementation of their data agenda. The aim of the Data Agenda is to promote investment in affordable housing and housing finance across Africa by supporting access to accurate, relevant, and current data.
Methodology
The project is ongoing and involves collecting, assessing and curating available data, identifying data gaps that inhibit market activity, building the capacity of partner institutions to collate and disseminate housing-related data, building data pipelines and dashboards to support the dissemination of data, and promoting the importance of accessible, credible data as a catalyst to growth and investment in the affordable housing market
Recent work on the Data Agenda for African Housing Markets includes:
- An interactive ‘B40’ dashboard exploring the housing circumstances of the bottom 40th percentile of the population in ten countries and their major cities
- A presentation unpacking the definition of “slum” households using data from the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Program
- A review of the data landscape of housing ecosystems in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Mozambique, with follow-on virtual roundtables aimed at stimulating housing stakeholder engagement in Nigeria and Uganda
The team is currently working with both the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics and the Nigeria Mortgage Refinance company to support the dissemination of high quality, relevant data related to housing. This work includes capacity building for each institution.
